I inlaid this maple piece on my Taylor. The image is of the former owner who was a good friend and bandmate. He lost his 10 year battle with cancer recently. This was one of his favorite guitars.
I was thinking of some wipe-on Minwax poly finish. does that sound OK?

Japanese made Strat with "Foto Finish" fake curly maple top. Evidently they took a photo of curly maple and glued it to a maple top then put a heavy, glossy finish on top. There are pretty heavy checks and I need to know the best way to fill them. I hesitate to refinish because of the fake curly maple underneath. And I don't know what kind of finish it is. Does anyone have any information / opinion on how to proceed?

Hi Lads,

Tks to anybody's help in telling me ho to safely clean a stiky neck on a Fender Custom Shop's 66 Jazz Bass Closet,
without hurting or damaging the nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The bass is quite 2 years old, and I'd like to have the neck fast and not sticky....Any suggestion is welcome and much appreciated...Thanks so much. Fabio

Again, my thanks to all who responded regarding my top crack on a Martin DX1. I was shocked by how much re-hydrating closed the crack. Had to have gone from an 1/8" down to less than 1/64". I was able to glue/clamp and cleat from the inside, and it doesn't look half bad. My next question is what is best for maintenance of a satin finish? I had a Martin Backpacker that someone had used Johnson's floor paste wax on. It had a nice soft feel to it, and seemed relatively well protected, but I don't…

Any other suggestions on the cleaning, conditioning, and protection of a satin finish?
