Hey everyone!  I'm hoping I can get some advice on repairing a major chip out of the top of a Gibson Reissue Gold Top.  I am a Refret guy and Refinishing is not my specialty.  But I want to learn! The chip is down to bare wood.  I do also have the chip itself that doesn't fit back exactly.   Advice?

Guitar ReRanch (Google this) has gold aerosols and clear nitrocellulose refinishing products which are suitable for first time refinishers.
You can go through the frets.com finish repairs topics and look at the stewmac newsletter archive to get some exemples.
First off, I'd glue the chip back in place with superglue.
Next you would need to fill any voids with superglue.
Finally you would need to touch up the finish, let dry and wet sand with 800 grit paper, and finish off with lacquer buffing compound.
That's about it in a nutshell, without going into a lot of details.
