I'm adding an active pickup to a Flinthill squareneck resonator. I'm considering placing the 9v battery inside near one of the sound hole screens for access. Any thoughts? They seem to be quite tight, are these screens typically glued in place? Heat to remove?

Ron:

Last year I repaired a Guild GAD 50 that had soundboard damage starting from the tailblock ending with cracks that ran up to the bridge. It cam out well, I used tightbond to reglue the bracing, and cracked tailblock, then refinished (3 attempts to match the sunburst encouraged me to sand and goto a natural finish w/ nitro lacquer)

Anyway, I was gone for a week and the temps droped to ) and below, the hosue dried out with the humidifier out of water and the Guild developed 2 old cracks to reopen from the old tailblock crack nearly to the bridge. you can run a piece of paper in the middle of the cracks. This happened to another guitar a couple of years ago and I made a dish out of tin foil and placed it inside the guitar with a soaked sponge in the pan. That ime it worked, closing the crack. I then use CA to seal the crack, added cleats, touched up the cracks with nitro and it was great. This time the cracks won't close after 2 days with the wet sponge.

Any thoughts?     Jerry Ryan
