telescoping brass tubing plug cutters

I have purchased a 3/16 telescoping brass tube, filed teeth in one end, and started cutting plugs from rosewood. The plugs are coming out 3/16 long. Is it possible to cut plugs that will be longer? I haven't changed the speed on the drill press yet, but I'm wondering if changing the speed will give a longer plug.

What are you using this for? I have several sizes and 3 different types of plug cutters. Most of them will cut a 2" to 3" plug and allow you to orient the grain however you want.

Hi Lee .. this is timely for me. Today, I needed to plug a few 3/16" holes in an ebony bridge and couldn't find a plug cutter that size. I chucked a piece of ebony into my drill press, w/ correct grain orientation, used 80 grit then 220 grid sticky-back sand paper on a squared up board, and just ground it round to 3/16". Worked perfectly..

I use this tool for filling machine head screw holeshttp://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=10254&cat=2,4270... I sharpen a dowel with a pencil sharpener enlarge the existing hole with this bit, then I mark it and cut it with a fine tooth handsaw. A little bit of glue and I can press it in flush no trimming required.

I love this guys stuff, here he turns a leather punch into a plug cutter.
