Just purchased a 92 earl scruggs standard with a minor straight heat check on resonator. While this in no way alters the fine sound of this Gibson, it is a cosmetic 'blemish'. Is there any known safe way to diminish this flaw without risk to the rest of the finish? I've read the Gibson pump polish label and it seems there is a minute amt. of lacquer listed as ingredient. All responses would be deeply appreciated. thanx . doc

The only way to eliminate the checking or lacquer cracks is to remelt the lacquer.
It's all part of life with an instrument and I personally wouldn't do anything with it.

Frank Ford addresses instrument heat checks on the "sister site", frets.com. It basically sings the praises of cellusolve and good old-fashioned elbow grease....
