i'm guessing this will only only be useful to non professional luthiers like me who still make mistakes on a daily basis.
I made a jazz bass neck which suffered from a vibrating truss rod when playing certain notes all due to me not fitting the rod with the help of a few spots of decorators caulk to stop the rattle. the rod was glued in under a fillet to keep it all well contained but it STILL rattles !
firstly, drill out one of your inlay dots or drill through a fret slot if the frets are not yet fitted. be VERY careful regarding how deep your drill goes, you need to make a hole [ 2mm wide or so ] through the flat top part of the 2 - way truss rod but no deeper. then fill a small syringe with the sealant/caulk and squirt the stuff in there. adjust the rod both ways to spread the caulk. no more buzzing for me.
I will ALWAYS use caulk from now on to avoid needing to do this again .[ not sure what you folks in the USA use but in the UK caulk is a readily available product ]
