I here over on the Guild site that D'Addario strings are the way to go for the best overall volume /tone/substain for my D-35 Westerly built mid 80s Guild. I used to play John Pierce strings just because my beloved Nanci Griffith played them when she used to play the odd Guild on stage until she got into that strict Taylor contract.Over on the Guild site some people hint that DR strings are where you want to be. The reason I here this is that they are owned by the son of one of the original owners of Guild before Fender got their hands on them.....and they call that progress as John Prine would say! They claim to use mostly Guild guitars for their lab tech shop testing trying to hit all of the above tarkets dead on. I have yet to throw a set of DR strings on having the D'Addarios at present. Has anyone tried a set of DR strings on their Guild and are you happy you did ? Thanks for your input! -nanccinut

Have you tried Guild strings?Hard to find, but as good as/same as Da'ds.This is such a personal thing.I assume you use PB,s?Personally I go for gauge then almost any US make.At the moment I can get Darco for half the price of D'ads or JP's.No competition!
Yes and frankly I wasn't overly impressed . Even tried Eleceria strings and wet back to John Pierce at the time. Guess Nanci Griffith knows best. Guess I am a hard critic. -nanccinut
"the best strings for a -----" subject has become a little bit of a lost cause with me. A lot of customers have asked that, and (after giving a somewhat thoughtful choice), they will -without fail- eventually buy and install what suits 'em best. A choice made by me (if it doesn't sit well with the customer) makes them wonder what ELSE "that guy doesn't know".

So my "best strings advice" these days is "whatever you like and feel comfortable using". It's kinda' like trying to recommend tires for someones car.... if I'm not the one driving it, my recommendations don't really matter. I tell folks to stick with known brands and the gauge appropriate for the setup, but beyond that, the world's your oyster~!
