Gold / silver foil

Anybody know of a source of the " foil " material used in gold / silver foil pickups ?

Howdy fishin.

I went to the local craft store and found both silver & gold heavy gauge foil (about 1.5 mil thick). It's a great sub for the real stuff.

To mimic the original DeArmond Gold foil's texture I used a knurled Tele knob. I laid the foil on an old computer mouse pad and rolled the knob over the foil to mimic the pyramid shaped texture of the originals. The mouse pad has some give to it so the 'embossing' knob wouldn't rip or penetrate the foil.  It takes a few practice sessions to get the feel for it. Once you're at it, make several for your parts box. You may also use a ratchet handle to texture the foil.

I adhered the foil to the original pups with the same double sided 3M adhesive sheet that we use to stick pickguards on to acoustics.
