Pickup's mounting holes

Hi,

I've to drill the four+four mounting holes for my neck and bridge Fender JB pickups. It's the first time I do that and I haven't found any information on D. Erlewine "Guitar Player Repair Guide" nor in others books or webs. How much deep do I have to drill 'em out? The screws are 1,3 inches long and the pup are the original Fender JB pups. The pup holes on the body are 0,83 inches deep (more or less).

Just drill enough so that even with the pickup sat in the bottom of the cavity, screws won't bottom their holes. Make a full scale drawing if that's not clear enough : things will seem obvious.

Use the pickup cover as a guide. Tape you drill bit for depth. Try mounting on a scrap board first for practice.
