I operate String Instrument Services in Talent, a small town in Southern Oregon. I have been engaged in professional instrument service and repair since 1990. I spent 6 years working with an experienced repair man named Ralph Bakel while we both worked at Cripple Creek Music Co in Ashland, OR. When Ralph passed on, I worked for the music store for another 9 years doing setups, checking in new instruments, and maintaining the rental instruments of the violin family owned by the store. In 2005, I resigned to set up my own shop. I have learned so much from Frank Ford's Frets.com site that I don't know how I could have done it without him. Thanks, Frank! He has made me realize that being generous with information and encouraging others who are interested in learning proper repair technique helps all luthiers to make the musical world a better place.
