Hi Kate, "Kia Ora" from New Zealand.
Cool ID photo.... you both look so happy! Makes a nice change from guitar-parts pics. It's pleasing to see some more girls on this board.
My partner and I live 90 mins train ride from Wellington city, in a rural community of about 4000. We moved up there so we could both work part-time, and have a life. Alys is a local librarian; I've been a luthier for more years than I like to tell folks Now I make and repair from home, plus 2 days a week as guitar and amp tech in a city music store ( www.mojosound.co.nz ). Just incidentally, three of five guitar techs in the city are women - myself, my apprentice, and another musician/songwriter whom I encouraged into the profession. And if my workload continues, I'll be looking for another trainee next year....
When I'm not doing luthier work, or cooking, or spending time with Al, or herding our ducks and chickens....I play mandolin and mandola with celtic friends, and in a regular trio of guitar, bass, and octave mandolin.
Would you like to keep in touch ?
Shalom and hugs, Simcha. .
