HI Wayne I usually sand it off and veneer on a new head cap most don't care if i add a walnut head cap to strengthen the break as a matter of fact i sand off the old head cap first then join the two pieces together first and second add the new head cap sand flush prep and finish and i usually go with tong oil finish for customers that do not want to pay a lot my thought the new head cap adds strength and i have never had one come back as a matter of fact again i do this in 2 days and make $160 doing this from home
