FRETS.NET

Should I attempt to straighten a slightly bowed fretboard (new fretboard) prior to gluing. The convex side will be glued to the neck. I've read that installing the frets can relieve the bow somewhat. I plan to fret after the gluing.

Hi Paul,

lack of info here:  trussrod?   Neck thickness type?  Fingerboard thickness, fret slot depth and width, fret tang width and depth and so on.  That’s a laundry list of consideration and why we use double acting trussrods.  However, as a general answer a bit of a curve in a slotted fretboard prior to installation is no big thing.  We mill our boards flat anyway as a belt and braces operation before slotting and any subsequent reaction is incidental and accepted.
