the top caved in it has several rows of binding the celluloid kind i think that has given way i am gong for it but would like some thoughts as well from this forum wheres Russ who has done this i kinda realize it has to be made up on the way to completion but any good ones out there

Looks like the top is shrinking. I would put a lot of humidity in it and swell it back.

I like the sound of these bowl-back instruments , but does anyone know how they make the back ? and how is the neck attached ? Why do they line them with paper ?I guess there are some good ones out there - but I only get to see the bad ones! Len

the bowl is made in a formed mold usually ...i think they used to use a gord sometimes...not sure if gords are even local to greece..but actually the octave mandolin is probably where the bouzouki came from so who knows

hard to say whats going on from your pics...i've worked on quite a few bouzouki's but it's hard to say if the top is shrinking or caving in ....if the top is concave then it probably has some bracing issues ...also do the staves look tight or are they abnormally shaped or anything?
