FRETS.NET

Hello,
I am getting a project guitar soon, and it needs a really good cleanup,
among other things.

Part of that is for me to replace some of the missing binding.
I have some questions if you will..
Should I replace just the missing piece, or the whole side?
The binging is black plastic I believe.
Is this difficult to do? Any tips?
Where can I get new binding, stemac?

Thank you for any help!

This looks like an inexpensive Asian guitar?
Do you have the missing piece? That would be the easy fix.
Is the remaining binding loose?

The main problem here will probably be the fret ends.
Binding is usually installed before finish and frets.
If the guitar warrants the work. I would pull the frets and replace the binding.

Hi, yes, the guitar is an Asian guitar, it is a Brazos model. I have a photo of the whole guitar, but cannot seem to attach it to this message. The guitar is not worth much, and I have no true luthier skills, so I was scared when I read that I would have to pull and then reset the frets, as I have no clue how to do this. I am not sure if the guy selling the guitar has the missing piece of trim.

Well, it seems it's time to start learning how to do the the work. Plenty of info here, other sites, videos, and books.

I second what Thomas said, Arthur.  I think you've hung here enough to show a true interest in learning to do some repairs. This guitar is a good starter for you to work on so it's time to push your canoe off the shore and start paddling.   :)

What Tom & Ned said is true, Arthur.

You're well known to AND very well liked by the forum's members.

Need info & coaching? As and you will receive :) What you can do for yourself will open vast horizons of possibilities.

Take care & much encouragement my friend :)

Thank you!

This just arrived in my inbox:

A good place to start. Tom

In this case I would just replace the binding parts that are missing no big deal. Yes from Stu- Mac or any  other supplyer at hand..Bill ............
