Which is the ODD ONE OUT? California! How perverse is that? All those nice people in California who like to play guitar and a climate PERZACTLY the opposite to what they need.Sea on one side, mmm nice, but what`s this! A desert on the other side.Who`s organised that?Do`nt forget Cremona ,next to a river .Also has very high humidity .That`s what Mr Wiki tells us .Also Mexico (Paracho anyway).High humidity. It`s not their fault if your guitar goes off like a fiecracker when you sit down for your tea and you wonder if the war`s just started.Food for thought there .Think about it ------A new line in watches."Have you got the humidity on you mate"Remember this last thing before you go to sleep tonight.Get yourself a humidifier.California --Aweapon of mass guitar destruction.

Hi Paul I was being a bit saucy about the climate, but you are quite right about making guitars there. The problem comes if you bring a guitar in from a damper climate. It`s like having a fizzy drink before you go up in a plane .All sorts of funny things start to happen when the pressure changes. But I had a look at wikipedia and you have micro-climates too. That must give you a few headaches. You have the best climate for humans though as your skin loses the moisture .I recently found a lot of my ancestors in the historical archive in the CALIFORNIA ROOM.There is an aural testimony by one pioneer who says when they came across from New York to California all their furniture fell to pieces and the grandfather clock never ran right again. She didn`t mention if they had a guitar tho.I`m quite new to e mails---less than a month .It`s good fun .Thanks for your message.Mind the Pandemic over there.Fingers crossed for you.

I live in Los Angeles. I do guitar repair. My understanding is that a properly built guitar can take on more moisture than it can lose. Their are many fine makers up and down the state in many climate zones. Its a big place. I also see a bunch of guitars etc. from Paracho. They range in quality, but I haven't had one explode yet.
To tom krebs and paul Thanks for the chat about humidity. If you ever read the life story of JASCHA HEIFETZ he lived on the West Coast and used to keep his best violin in a glass front cabinet on one shelf and on the shelf below was a saucer of water, and the door was left ajar.So there we are ,that`s the answer.Or get along and pick up a humidifier .As one joker at school used to say---Blessings on your cooking pot and on your waterhole!Cheers.
