Hi guys , I have a Martin Dc16GTE , with a prefix premium blend pre-amp , the pre-amp has a rattle which is hard to stop , I would like to remove the pre-amp but it has snap-in covers over the screws.Has anyone done this before ? Or had the rattles ? I have already removed the mic as the owner doesn't use it.

Hello Len.

Just get a small straight screwdriver between the snap-in covers and the mounting ring and gently pry them out.  It's really quite easy. Snap 'em back in when your done and you're good to go.

Attached is the PB pre installation manual that I downloaded from Fishman's website.  It'll let you know what to encounter when you pull the preamp.

Also, yes, rattling preamp hardware complaints are a pretty common occurrence.  Just like tuning keys & tuner bushings, they have mechanical components that occasionally "rattle loose" and need to be snugged-back-up.

Also check that the cabling inside the body of the guitar isn't vibrating against wood.  This is another common cause of pickup system rattles.

It's a shame the owner isn't using the mic with a 90% undersaddle pu to 10% mic mix.  Just a small amount of the mic in the mix really opens-up the sound of those systems.

Best of luck with the repair.  I think you'll find it a lot easier that you think.
