Got an Alverez accoustic thats neck has come loose from it dovetail...I just need to loosen the tongue extension....Did they use real glue, or is it a world of hurt ?...Thanks !
Warning: Depending on when it was made it might not even have a dovetail joint. It might just have 3 dowels. Like on an arm chair. SO those are are fun. Get the fretboard tung off the top first. YOu might just have to work it out like a chair joint. Take your time. And demand a ransom. Oh and save the alcohol for the after celebration party.
I researched my DY 75 Yairi once and found that the neck was build with a dove tail and a fingerboard extension. The truss rod adjust inside of the guitar and extends almost the total length of the fingerboard extension. I'm fairly sure that all Alvarez have dove tail joints.
THIS IS GOOD. I can't remember what I worked on,all the lacquer vapors, but maybe it was one of the knock off. All I know is I was quite stunned to find guitars built that way. So the guy will have to keep us posted on that guitar.
Hay I know I'm new to this site but I have been doin' this a long time. Sorry if I just jumped in. I don't know why I didn't join before. I'll have to think about that.
Nothing wrong with "jumping in". I actually have a couple of Alvarez. Both are high end, one a Yairi and the other is a ..... can't actually remember, it's waiting in a case for me to repair a shipping accident which is why I got it. Anyway I do know that both are dove tale joints which doesn't mean that some of their lower end products aren't something else but I think it it a safe bet that they are all made pretty much the same way.
I've seen some doweled neck joints but I haven't tried to work on one. I suppose it would be easier to just cut them off and drill some holes for bolting the neck back on after it is fit. I'll bet it's a LOT easier to fit that way.
It is a dovetail...I can tell by my probes from the side...And the truss rod goes all the way to the end of the extension.....Wish me luck...I'm going in !
Hay great. I will suggest one thing. I am not sure a heat lamp doesn't do finish damage or not but I prefer to use a modified espresso machine with steam. I find that it also softens up the glue to make it easier to remove. Please let me know how the finish fared and what removing the glue was like after.
Thanks
