FRETS.NET

A trick I've been using on some fret dressing jobs....You're leveling the frets, and find a 2 or 3 fret dip, or a couple fret ends too low...I'm talking about a few thousands..Options are...Grind everything down to the level of the dips, or pulling all the teeth and refretting...The second option is the preferable way to deal with this...What if the customer can't afford a refret, or that much additional grinding will leave the frets too low...I've had mucho luck by lifting the offending fret a tiny bit and resetting it level to the others..I have a dead flat metal bar about 5 inches long that i use to bridge from good fret to good fret...Run super glue along the offending fret or fret end, and press down with the bar and hold...On a fret end, it could leave a tiny little gap that can be filled with a bit of glue so there's no " snag "...I have used this on necks with a bit of " kick back "...( scarf joints, I'm looking at you )...I have also replaced one or two of the first frets with taller ones for this problem as well..I just did this on an Epiphone that had a poorly repaired fingerboard seperation...The rest of the frets were about 42 thousandths high, and I replaced the first two with 55's....It was that bad, but it solved the problem...So there....
