My Washburn F5 wannabe/ M3 mandolin is in excellent condition but has a taptone more akin to a thud.Is it possible to attack from the outside and free up the stiffness? I'm not concerned or care that much for sunburst finish but don't want to distroy an ok axe.Completely that is......

Well, if you're like me, you have little money to spare but I've seen some pretty good deal going down on fine old Gibson's lately. It seems to me that prices are down from between 1/3 to 1/2 over what they were 2 years ago. Maybe it's time to consider another mandolin.

I'm more interested in trying to alter what I have if it will improve the tone,I've been making some mando's(flattop)that sound way better than this one.No complicated bending and blocking.I guess I'll have to carve an archtop someday.
