I'd like to know whats Dan's opinion on the new Lacquers.... Are they all the same for the most part ?

Is the regular furniture lacquer the same stuff. My experience is with waterborn material . Of course I welcome anyones ideas on this matter but I'd like to hear from Dan Ford

Hi Greg. Welcome to the forum.

It's possible that you may have your Repair icons a bit mixed. The guru on this site is named Frank, rather than Dan. Just so you know. BTW, have you looked over the information on his .com site? Lots of good stuff there.

What do you mean by "new Lacquers"? It would probably be better if you were more focused by including some more detail about exact what finish you are interested in learning more about.

Are you spraying or wiping or brushing finish?

What type of instrument are you finishing? Is it new or repair finishing you are interesting in.

Anyway, your question is probably too universal to be answered here so refining thing might help things along.

BTW, if you are just looking for general information on lacquer finish, you will probably learn much more, at a faster rate, if you do some searching/reading on some wood working sites.

Thanks I was referring to Frank..

  I'll be spraying......

I've read a few articles on different lacquers but was a little confused to whether any brands were truly different from one another. The finishing is for new instruments, guitars and Ukes primarily, i'm a small time builder.

New lacquers as in the last 6 years or so as opposed to the earlier lacquer from say 20 years back. Was wondering if the formulas have changed and if anyone had heard anything along these lines.....

I searched to find out like what lacquer gibson uses now and can't find it, maybe its a secret...thanks for your
