Franks '38 D-28 Repair Steam set up Question

Frank or others, in your photo essay on the '38 D-28 repair your show your new steam generator, cool idea.  Couple of questions:
1.  The steam needle is in a 90* brass fitting, is this 'store bought' or something you made?  It looks easier to manipulate compared to the regular 'straight in' needle.
2.  Regarding the little air blowers..what about, instead of 'blowing' air at the steam, you just use the shop vac to 'suck' the steam away through the little plastic nozzles?

'Sucking' steam is like vacuuming water : not all vac are able to do it. But if yours can, I guess it should work fine.

Just a thought. We just got a steamer/ cleaner thing to save money on dry cleaning, and it fires up in about 90 seconds. If one removed the large end attachment and stepped the tubing down right, one could use it in the shop. It was about $120.00 from Target.

Yes, I made up the hose fitting. Still gets hot, but it is a bit easier to handle.

The idea with the blowers is not to remove the water but to cool the condensation immediately before it can damage the finish. Those jets shoot air right into the corners were vacuum would not be effective. Water doesn't hurt but the hot steam does.

..thanks Frank and others..makes sense to me. I may work on rigging something up, plus, get my metal lathe up and running..I find the stu mac hose a bit awkward to use and often wondered why a 90* fitting wasn't created..Tom
