hey folks I need your help again. I just removed a lifting bridge from an old Guild nylon sting mark2. unfortunately the bridge had came off once before and when it was re-glued I think they used black majic or supper glue because the normal bridge removal proceedure did not work. After hours of effort I did get it to seperate but now I am faced with some finish issues. I am not sure if I should just strip the face and refinish or if i can fine sand and refinish. The finish is a matte typ dull finish almost like varnish not a high gloss. It looks also like the area under the bridge was filled with some kind of goop but never leveled to the surface of the face real well before regluing.(most likely so he didnt have to refinish the face after sanding) If you have any thoughts on what type of finish Guild may have used and what my best approch might be I would appreciate it.
thanks
Vince

As far as I know all Guilds were finished with nitrocellulose lacquer. Hard to give you much advice based on your description, but touching up the marks would likely be preferable to refinishing the whole top.
thanks Greg.
i was able to level off the wood filler that was used the first time the bridge was reglued. i was carefull with the sanding so it may not be too bad when i am done.
