Huge fret slots - what's the best way to snug them up?

What's the best way to deal with overly wide fret slots? Fill and recut, or use shims, or crimp the tang?

Thanks

Once again...thanks Frank..This forum is like looking over the back of my apprentice and, after all these years of doing things the way I'm used to doing them...I can think things out better with the help of others insights..Or best yet, when I think I've gotten it figured out, the most simple thought becomes valuable information!!!...If I owned a hat, It would be tipped to you! The first hat I ever buy tho'...
Since I first responded to this, I refretted an old Yamaha FG230, same canyoned fret slots. The fret crimping tool from Stewmac made it no problem whatsoever.
CRIMP THE TANG .
