Is your plan for an electric or acoustic? I built an electric combo, mandolin on top, guitar below, and used it for several years. I was never a fan of parallel necked combos. I made mine so a line drawn through the center of both necks would meet at the end button. This meant that the playing angle of both necks was the same. I had a switch that selected the electrics of one or the other necks so I got no noise from unplayed strings.

I thought of making an acoustic version but never got round to it.

Ron Id like to hear about the electric but Ive been wanting to build the Acoustic version

I had the heels of the two necks more or less in line which meant that the strings of the mandolin ended well before the guitar strings. How do you plan to anchor the mandolin strings? For an acoustic I thought about a four pin  bridge for the mandolin with 2 strings to each pin, maybe with an off center sound hole under the mandolin strings. as the mandolin bridge wanted to be near where the guitar sound hole would normally go.

I would plan on gluing the Mandolin bridge just my initial thought or I can go Bass Mandolin /Bazooki keeping the guitar scale and Mandolin scale the same 25.5 inches .

back @ Ron I would drill the bridge like a 12 string, and stagger the Bridge pin holes 4 up front 4 in back staggered .

Sounds like a double neck 12/6 string acoustic with fewer strings.  If you are going to make one air space in the body, it seems to me like a single sound hole would work for both necks.

I was looking at John Roberts double necks and he has placed two sound holes under each set of strings I might try that and I am leaning towards Lattice bracing can any one  help shed light on the subject ?

Following your posts of last night I started to sketch out what I would do for an acoustic combo. Every attempt to put the mandolin neck to the left of the guitar neck, when viewed from the front, resulted in an ugly shape and an awkward bridge position. More successful was the mandolin on the right hand of the guitar neck. If this was combined with a deep cutaway, the bridge could be in line with the guitar bridge and a standard guitar mold used.

This image is based on an LG2. The mandolin string length is roughly 14 inches and you might be able to get 12 frets to the body. It doesn't sound like the instrument you have in mind but if I were to try for an acoustic combo I would look farther down this route.
