Hello Mr. Ford!

Currently I am re-working the English Wikipedia article on Classical guitar. I wish to expand it substantially with historical perspectives, including historical early guitars. My research has led me to your website, which features a good example of a Lacote early romantic guitar:

http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Museum/Guitar/Antique/1836LaCote/18...

I am writing to obtain permission to use the following image on wikipedia (The source of the image would of course be included and lead people back to your website.):
http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Museum/Guitar/Antique/1836LaCote/1836LaCoteViews/1836lacote06.jpg

Are you claiming copyright on this image? If so, would you give permission to use the image on
Wikipedia? If you are not the copyright holder, would you be so kind to indicate who I should contact for permission.

Thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
John Rocher

Hello again!

Wikipedia usually requires images to use a so-called "free" license that permits both commercial reuse and derivative works (reference).
Thus you will need to give permission for the images to be used under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License. This means that although you retain the copyright and authorship of your own work, you are granting permission for all others (not just Wikipedia) to use, copy, and share your materials freely -- and even potentially use them commercially -- so long as they do not try to claim the copyright themselves, nor prevent others from using or copying them freely.

You can read this license in full at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_Att...

This license expressly protects creators from being considered responsible for modifications made by others, while ensuring that creators are credited for their work.

This may or may not be compatible with your goals in having made the images available on your website. Please be assured that if permission is not granted, your materials will not be used at Wikipedia -- there is a very strict policy against copyright violations.

Thus:
Do you give permission to use the image
http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Museum/Guitar/Antique/1836LaCote/18...
under the "Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License"?

Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
John Rocher
I CANT GIVE PERMISSION. ASK FRANK FORD LIKE I SAID CLICK HIS ICON AND ASK HIM PERSONALLY THIS IS HIS PAGE
Indeed, I took the photo, so it's up to me to grant permission for its use. You're welcome to use it - all I ask is simple photo credit, OK?

Frank
