Is it loose at all?...It's pretty much some bizzare non organic glue they used...If it's loose or could be made loose, it's a plus!!!...A real neck reset on an Ovation is only given to a chosen few,,,..The wise,.The insolent..the semi-reluctant , and yes!!!!....The ....UNSPOKEN!!!!!!...Just did one tho' and it came out gtreat!!!( Came in completly apart and all it needed was to be glued back on )....P.S.Whooo!
P.S. You have to respomd with the beefiest epoxy you can get!!!
THANKS YEA THIS INSTRUMENT IS TOGETHER BUT WITH OUT HUMIDITY CONSTANT STRING TENSION AND NO BELLY THE TOP DIVES IN INSTEAD OF THE TYPICAL BELLY IT IS NEGATIVE 2 DEGREES THE WRONG WAY AND THE SADDLE IS SLAMMED TO THE DECK IT HAS 6/32ED AT THE E 17TH FRET AND 5/32RD AT THE HIGH HOW ELSE CAN I GET A BETTER ACTION ?
Run Away!
LOL AHA
I AM ALWAYS READY FOR A CHALLENGE THAT AND I CANT RUN I AM MISSING A KNEE CAP I CAN HOP BUT NOT RUN
Anybody know if the fingerboard is glued on with the same type of glue? If it's possible to get the fingerboard off the neck more easily, I'm thinking that maybe a shim under the fingerboard would raise it up and thus lower the action. Might be easier than trying to reset the neck.

Mike

I just took the neck off one. It was easy, just took out the one bolt and worked my various spatulas under it. The glue smells kind of fishy. Now the shop smells fishy. Is that what dried hide glue smells like? The fretboard was glued to the finished body with a thick coat of glue. Figured it would be a good first neck reset. Wish me luck.

WELL WELL I LIKE THAT IDEA
SOMEONE MENTIONED ON ANOTHER FORUM THAT YOU CAN HEAT THE BOWL AND CLAMP THE NECK BACK BUT I ALMOST ALWAYS SUGGEST STRONGLY THAT THEY SEND IT BACK TO OVATION TO DEAL WITH. I HAVE RESET OVIE NECKS BY RUNNING A SQUARE DRIVE SCREW IN FROM THE INSIDE WITH A LONG 1/4" EXTENSION BUT I WON'T DO THAT ANYMORE, THEY BUILT IT LIKE THAT, THEY CAN CLEAN UP THEIR MESS.
Paul,
Forget my idea about shimming the fingerboard. Sorry to get your hopes up. :(

I emailed Ovation customer service and asked them what kind of glue they use to bind the fingerboard to the neck and they, to my surprise, promptly emailed back that they use epoxy for that too !! I can understand epoxy for the neck/body joint but for the fingerboard ? That's wood on wood ! I guess they just build em to stay built and not to be disassembled.
I have a friend with the same issue on his old Ovation and thought I could help him too. Sounds like the only alternative to sending it back to Ovation is to sand down the bridge...I know that's heresy on this forum for most guitars, but hey, this is an Ovation :)

Mike
My guess is that Ovation's decision was all about open time assembly line speed.
