Hi

Having just re-strung my Ric 620/12 over a newly fitted, pre-owned 12 string bridge, I noticed that the 1st. pair (unison E) were resting on the bridge cradle on the edge nearest the tailpiece.

I have adjusted the pitch of the bridge cradle as in the 2 attached images so that the strings are clear to the tailpiece.

Can you tell me please,

1. Is the bridge cradle meant to sit square to the body plate, or is that in fact an acceptable Rickenbacker adjustment and is this what the four bridge set screws are for; furthermore have I done the correct adjustment?

2. What would be the effect of the strings resting in the bridge cradle (tailpiece edge) anyway, assuming the strings are clear between the saddles and the nut?

Thanks for your help......I'm learning all the while!!

Brian.

1. Well I for one can't see any other reason to have the 'set' screws in that configuration, and the adjustment accomplished what you were after. Unless theres something Im missing, I think Occam would suggest its all good. The slots in those saddles are getting a little deep though.

2. Having the strings against the rear edge of the bridge might cause buzzing and increase friction on the strings, as well as lead to unnecessary/wanted cosmetic wear on the bridge.

Thanks Andrew,

I wasn't sure if the saddle cradle was meant to sit square to the body plate but as you say, pitching it back  has rectified any potential issues that may be apparent (but not noticed) when the strings were touching the cradle edge.  Any Ricky techies out there that might like to chime in here, with a little more info/guidance on this particular adjustment.....Thank you!

There's not a lot of info or help on this particular adjustment either on the Ric Homepage - RicResource or You Tube.

Andrew, I too think the saddle slots are a little too deep, but this is how I purchased the bridge (pre-owned); but the intonation is perfect.  However, I would like to replace the saddles, but the problem I have here in the UK, is sourcing 12 string saddle blanks. The only ones I can find, come complete with springs & adjustment screws ready fitted and are very expensive, which would incur charges for parts I don't need.

Could anyone in the good ole US of A supply12 x (JUST the saddle blank ONLY).......if so, details pleeeeease!!

I found this: http://boutique.rickenbacker.com/SADDLE-12-STRING-BRIDGE_p_755.html

No pics or other info though :S.
