Hey Jerry,
Sorry haven't been on here in quite some time. I recently started a new business and have had my attention elsewhere. You can certainly use humidity to swell a crack shut. Just be careful, if you use an abnormal amount of humidity to get the crack to swell it stands a pretty good shot of opening back up under more "regular" circumstance. If it won't swell shut under ~50-55% you'd be better off using a spline and touching it up.
