La Due Guitars

They’re made here; one at a time, in a 750 square foot shop. I use 1930’s era technology and a lot of hand tools. I make every piece. Backs and rims are resawn from planks and billets. Necks are hand carved with draw knives, rasps and scrapers. Braces are shaped with chisels. Each top and back is individually voiced. I do everything here, even make and dye the purflings. It’s my art. It’s my dream. It’s where I live. Every guitar is my signature in sound and aesthetics.

It’s my purpose and goal to make excellent, conservatively priced one-off guitars that use the beauty of our local hardwoods combined with tasteful appointments.  The combinations of woods, rosettes, bindings and purflings makes an aesthetic statement punctuated and enhanced by pleasing tone and presence. My guitars are a polite assertion of the beauty and diversity of our local hardwoods and a demonstration of the wise and frugal use of a precious resource.
