Indeed, it does sound like the back shrank and the brace is poking out at the end. No way to correct that without removing or cutting the brace at the end. Typically, I fill that area with cyanoacrylate and then touch up the finish over the area, Nasty stuff. . .
Sorry but I have no information about the Blueridge neck joints. Over the years those have been made by different Asian factories, so I'd guess that some might be dovetail, epoxy, or dowel.
They have always been imported by Saga - someone there might be able to shed some light:
