Lacquer in Canada

Hello everyone.I had a question for all you Canadians out there building or repairing guitars. I repaired a side crack on an acoustic guitar with ca glue, and as i'm scraping down the ca i went through the tinted clear. Now i need to match the tinted clear coat. So my question is, up here in Canada what type of Lacquer are you using  and what are you using to tint it.

I still havent ever bought lacquer from a Canadian supplier. Be interested too to find out where folks are getting it. Not sure if your east or west, but just south of B.C., in Bellingham, Washington is Grizzly Equipment. I get most of my finishing stuff there. They sold McFaddens until they were gone and also sell Behlens, which Im now using. They still have Mcfaddens color dyes  (on sale too) last I looked for your tinting needs. They now ship to Canada too, if you arent nearby.

 

By the way-not my area of expertise, but without knowing what type of lacquer is already on the guitar, I think you could get into a mess if there is an incompatibility with the new lacquer you apply.

Down hear in Ontairo we buy Goudey brand Lacquer. As far as getting into a mess I would hope that you would try the new in a little spot first. Hey having said that you never learn any thing new with out taking a chance. Thanks for the reply guys. I live up in northern alberta, 5 hours north of Edmonton, close to 9 hours north of the US border. So taking a drive into the states is out of the question for me. The only lacquer i have access to is from hardware stores like Home Hardware, Canadian tire. I'm pretty sure they are not nitro. I don't have a problem with ordering online if i could find someone that would ship the stuff. The guitar i'm working on is a 79 Mann, it's been in my family since new and is in need of some tlc. It never did play properly in tune and now i know why(saddle in the wrong location). I will be removing the bridge and regluing it in the proper location. I was thinking i might do a complete refinish on it. I've done the denatured alcohol and the lacquer thinner test and neither even touched the finish. Which leads me to believe it's a poly finish. Weather it's a polyester or polyurathane i'm not sure . My personal opinion is that your post and my post are not relevant but, other than that, I believe that the original thread did, indeed, have a point. Sorry you missed it.
