Hello
I had a old Kay acoustic come in my shop and the guy would like it setup to play bottle neck and chords. The neck radius is flat. I have to make a new bone nut. Would I keep the nut and bridge flat like the fingerboard or would I put a radius on the nut and saddle? If the nut and bridge needs to have a radius, what would you recommend. Also, what about the action height above first fret and say the 12th fret. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much,
Michael

I would make the nut flat and the height the same at 1st & 12th fret Michael if you can. If I under stand that you are going to play it like you would play a Dobro with a bar??????????/ Bill.""""""""""""
I would keep things flat. The player will need to guide you for the actual height.
Setup will take some time since it has to be high for the bottleneck, but not too high so it can be play the standard way and be in tune. I'll go for a flat nut and saddle : fretboard is flat, so no reason to put a radius on saddle or nut.
Most bottleneck guys want a radiused board to articulate individual notes better. Squareneck players go for the flatness. Can you sell him on a refret too?
