Thickness of pearl inlays

I have an old Gibson Melody Maker with some deep divots in the fretboard.I have measured the deepest to be 0,44 mm (0,0175"). I know the Frank Ford method, but I may still be tempted to sand the FB down. Are the pearl inlays thick enough for that?

 No they won't be thick enough.Bill..........

if the inlays are really thin you can CAREFULLy remove them.  then you can go nuts and sand as much as you need to and then re install the inlay and you'll be all set.
