What is the correct procedure for installing a new zero fret

Same as a standard fret. Find the same fretwire, stainless stell if available and voilà!

Just be careful, if the fretboard part that is between the zero fret and nut is to narrow, it can split when you hammer the fret (don't ask me how I know :(  )

Put a new fret in with a larger crown then the frets that are on the guitar now. So if the frets on the guitar are for ex. 148's use a155 for the zero fret.Bill...
