Quick question;     What do you use to trim the binding for the guitar?  They seem to never come in the size you need!  Stew Macs jig is priced ridiculously too !  Got a photo of it?  Many thanks!

Although the price is restrictive the StewMac jig has been a welcome addition to my shop. It is incredibly accurate and well made and has reduced the time that I spend on binding by half. I do a lot of restoration and rebinding so having the ability to accurately trim the material to exact size is a blessing.

You 'sold' me!  I'll get one ASAP!

Hi Chris- somewhere along the line I have seen a jig that you can make and from what I can see it looks like it will work well.

The thing is It escapes me where I saw it.. DAAAA

Google it and perhaps you can come up with some info...

hope this helps-----  Peace, Donald

MANY thanks for the reply's...MUCH appreciated!

OK..Update... I did wind up purchasing the Stewmac set....WELL worth it !! Easy and fast to use! I had a neck binding done in about 45 sec.! What once may have taken a few hours to do...I had the binding sized and trimmed in approx. 45 sec.!
I quickly realized that the next time I use it... I am affixing a 1" vac. hose nearby it!!! :)

MANY thanks to all that replied!!

You must have experienced "binding snow". The vac idea is a good one, why didn't I think of that? I've always set up on my outdoor work bench but the vac is there next time..........

Update.... the vac I use to vac all the plastic shavings is a Sears 2 gal (1" hose) model # 113.177135.
I have the crevice tool affixed to the wooden board by a magnet (1").
I counter sunk (and glued), the magnet to the "correct (?) position on the board.
AND, also glued another magnet inside the crevice tool. (Epoxy)

Certainly reduces all those plastic (and wood) shavings by around 90%.

I guess you could use a metal strip instead of one of the magnets...
Hope this tip helps any of you out there.

* Lee Valley is a good source of magnets.

I just tape a magnet on the outside of the vac hose in order to remove it from time to time. I usually have it stuck to the vise or a metal tool base. Be careful around pickups with those magnets.

Tape is fine. I glued mine as it is a dedicated crevice tool just for this purpose. The 1" hose size is dirt cheap and expendable.
