A friend wants me to repair his old Harmony-made Fender H-1070 1-2-string. I need to re-set the neck and replace the saddles. What can someone tell ne about the two-saddle deal? The one nearest the tailpiece is missing. Is it supposed to be higher or lower than the one closest to the soundhole? I'd just as soon not mess with this, but they are supposed to sound good. I won't be charging him much to re-set the neck, which he did not realize needed doing, but it's unplayable(maybe a good thing?). Does the original instruction to tune this guitar 3 frets low need to be heeded?

It appears to me that the saddle nearest the tailpiece should be higher and slotted in order to keep the strings separated correctly. The strings resonate from the saddle nearest the sound hole. The slots need to be deep enough for the contact on the other saddle to be good.
