Fret rounding files

Are they a necessity?
I have read Frets.com and did not see them being used.
One option I read about is a 3 square file with the edges ground down, a cantsaw file with the edges ground and two types of rounding files.
Any other options?
I am replacing the nut on a Jay Turser 133 and noticed some fret wear. I want to level and dress them before they pit.

I would invest in a radius crowing fret file if I had many fret jobs to do and to date I have well over 2000 fret jobs done with my two favorite files that have been worn out 3 times and have been replaced 3 times yes you could use a triangle file with safety edges sanded on the corners of the triangle even as a professional we use them but not very often for my self unless dealing with tiny frets like on a mandolin or a ukulele if you have any bigger than a 3/4 size Guitars buy a set of files for $200 from stew mac and get the diamond files and then E Bay the files when your done or take it to a professional John I hope thats not you in the PHOTO lol just kidden but John if you are asking fret questions on how to go about doing frets let a pro take care of you I charge between$ 275 and$ 300 US for a refret this is where you wont go wrong and if you do then you can fall on someone else and say fix it and for a level crown and polish like $155 which is what you are looking at doing for more information on being a luthier call Roberto -Venn Phoenix AZ or call me in CA hope I brought you some enlightenment CHEERS PHB

I use 2 fret files, purchased from Stew Mac. One is for recrowning frets after leveling. It has 2 cutting edges, one for small fret wire, one for larger fret wire.
For rounding off fret ends I use a half round fret file. I also use a 6" mill bastard file, and various grits of sandpaper in fret work.

If you are only doing one guitar. I would just use a triangle file and grind and edge clean. I do like that cantsaw file if you're going buy one.

Use a fingernail file for the ends of the frets. It has a safe edge and is fine cut as to not get you into trouble and you or your wife has one all ready.

 bought a Stew Mac Diamond file and all the grit delaminated off the file ,They did nothing of course ,

   out 80 bucks ,

 So i bought a 220?320 Diamond crown file off Ebay for about Half the cost ,It`s really a great File ,I have done 6 fret jobs now and it` cuts just like i first got it , The problem with Diamond files is you have to use Carb cleaner to keep them cleaned out .

I would say support the Guys that build the Diamond files on ebay ,There coming right along .

 And Dont use these Diamond files on stainless steel frets it pulls the diamonds right off the files,

 Use a Regular steel cut file off Ebay then use the Diamond files to put the Finish on the frets,

You already said this in another thread.  There is no good reason to repeating it  here, word for word and  I think that doing so constitutes spamming. It makes me wonder if you're the one selling these files on Ebay. If you want your comments here, please go remove the others.

Are you talking about rounding ends or crowning the sides?
