Strap button for L-7

I have a 1946 Gibson L-7 archtop which has no neck heel strap button. The neck heel is not very meaty, and I'm wondering about the possible bad effects of installing a strap button on the neck heel.

Is the neck joint a dovetail, or a M&T joint?

The neck is three-piece, so putting a buttion into the lamination looks out of the question. On models like the ES-125, the front strap button is mounted on the body dside above the heel. Is there a reinforcement added inside the body to distribute the load, and is this a viable option for the L-7?
