I'm not a builder. I've acquired some interesting old mandolins and some newer guitars and I try to care for them myself to the limits of my ability. Some of the stranger ones (e.g., Howe-Orme cylinder-top mandolins) are unusual enough that I've had to figure out a bunch of stuff myself because your typical instrument tech wasn't likely to be familiar with them. Thus, my presence at Frets.net as a way to learn how to approach certain instrument repair challenges. But I'm by no means a luthier, nor qualified to work on anyone's instruments but my own. In fact, I pride myself in knowing the boundaries of my limited skills and, so far, have done a pretty good job of getting a pro involved when the task has required it. I hope my taking part in the forum didn't misrepresent who I am or what I do.
