Broken Nut on 2 Way Truss Rod

Hi, I have a customer who dropped his Garrison Acoustic off to me today. He has managed to break the Truss Rod Nut off the rod by over tightening it. And yes, I did give him a stern talking too for messing around with it in the 1st place!! As it's a 2way rod, the nut is welded on to the end of the exposed threaded portion of the rod. It has snapped off right at the join. I'm lookin for anybody with a bit of experience with this problem, as it's the 1st I've come across. Any bright ideas?

I've had one brain wave. What about finding a regular truss rod nut that will fit onto the existing threaded section, and superglue it on! The neck is back bowed and needs loosened. This way, I may have enough grip to turn the rod counter clockwise!

I had a acoustic beautiful Gibson that that happened so Told him to go to the factory and good luck! I knew I didn't want to work on it as it never had a finger print on it and I knew some thing would happen to it and I would be in deep s-----t so I passed.

Depending on access to the remainder of the rod, I've had luck slotting with a thin dermel cut-off wheel and using a screw driver to back it off. If you have no access you could try heat pressing some relief into the neck and forego any chance of future adjustment. The real option is pulling the fingerboard and replacing the rod. Most customers balk when they hear the price though.

Good idea sir, I've got about 1/2 inch of rod exposed. I've managed to seperate the original nut from the welded/broken piece of the rod so I now have a nut with a reverse thread. I'll try it out tommorow to see what I have to work with. I'm still thinking, maybe I can superglue the original nut onto the exposed rod. Failing that, I think I'll try Rons' idea with the Dremel wheel and using a screwdriver.Thanks
