I had a customer walk in with one of those Garth Brooks Takamine that's been dropped and has begged me to repair it. It needs a neck reset, but I understand that Takamines are epoxied necks. Anyone have experience with Takamines in this area?
steam it and smell it pull the fret over the body joint drill 2 holes 1 inch apart 2 inches down through the fret slot steam it with a cappuccino machine that you have laying around and a small needle for basket ball pumps and moisten it up if you get steam coming out smell it if it smells like epoxy your going nowhere fast you might try just a sharp accurate twist and pull frank talked about but the bad part of that is you may destroy the interrogatory of the braces inside i heard all this at RV a 3 day presentation from the man him self Frank Ford
Don't waste your time trying to steam this out, this is a saw job. The cutaway adds another layer of unpleasantness to this job. Consider turning this one down, unless you like working for minimum wage.
Didn't attempt the reset after your feedback. Thanks! I was able to apply minimal pressure and realized the neck block had separated from the top and the transverse bar. Shot some glue in there and am clamping it right now. I think the customer will be happy to have a guitar he can play again, and I know I'm pleased not to be attempting that reset. Thanks for the feedback.
