NEW MEMBERSHIP DENIED?

Lately there has been a daily barrage of obvious spammers applying for membership here at FRETS.NET.

Some time ago, I added those simple questions to weed out those bots or people who obviously don't belong, and every day I deny the membership to a dozen or more automated responses (usually two random letters).

Sometimes, though, I do manage to push the "deny" by accident.  PLEASE try again to register if that happens to you!

Thanks Frank! I got a random phishing email through this site. It was easily recognizable so I just deleted it but in any case, I appreciate the due diligence!

This morning I got a private message on my forum page from an Erica Woodward asking me to contact her privately on an email address. I reported it to Frank.

Also, I noticed in the site URL address I had a warning symbol and "Not Secure" message. I checked with Google and it said to replace the URL prefix with https://fretsnet....etc. Then the notice changed to a padlock icon and said Secure.

Weird.

I just joined this forum within the last 24 hours.  I got a friend request from "member" Ronald Morris.  It sounded phishy so I looked at the membership list.  I doubt that someone from Togo has "something important to discuss" with me so I am not responding.  Having seen Mr. Ford's post about scammers, I thought it prudent to post this event here.

My registration took 1+ year to complete.  
Registered Last December 2024
Today it was accepted.

Mine took well over 6 months, so much so I stopped checking last year.  Truth is, I've now forgotten the reason I was attempting to register in the first place.
Anyway, I've no idea what's been going on in the life of the Admin (I'm Admin for a Facebook group and can't always respond immediately).
So thanks, I hope I can bring something sensible to the site when the opportunity arises.

Lol yes !  I am in the process of figuring the exact eminent and important reason I subscribed.

I know it was a Luthiery issue, but I have many, so I cant remember why.

GENERAL COMMENT:  I have no connection with Brian May from Queen.  He is richer, more intelligent, more educated, better on the guitar and singing - apart from that we could be cloned :D

It seems that you are the administrator.
After my registration was accepted yesterday, I since received solicitation from a one Ron Morris

"I am RonaId Morris, I saw your profile and I decided to contact you immediately. Can you get back to me on my email "

Since it was a solicitation on my private email I am not sure if this is authentic or a scammer using a user's account.

Can you confirm ?

thanks for the heads up... R Morris was in the batch that I confirmed yesterday ... I see that they bothered other people...now i really doubt that they own a cigar box guitar... I have suspended them...
