Off the top of my head... no I don't know, but have you tried to see if they are magnetic? If so, that would be a ferris metal, not aluminum. If not magnetic, then are they brass/bronze color? No? Then aluminum is possible. Are there any white-ish spots or flakes? Aluminum corrosion appears as white.

From my experience too, there's always (even for a simple setup) something that will go wrong with these beauties.
