FRETS.NET

Hi gang - New to the forum so thanks for the invite. Hoping someone maybe near Stewart MacDonald luther tools plant in Athens Ohio can help me out. My D-35 1982 Westerly Guild is in bad need of the frets crowned as they are almost flat on the crown but not really pitted. Lost my 1/8"medium burr to do the job that fits into the handle. For this 3oz.item which is about $15.00 , they want another $8.00 to ship up to me almost next door in Ontario.Pretty sure it would get here fine in a envelope with a $1.70 international stamp taped inside a piece of paper.Willing to send international money order to someone willing to help beat this crazy shipping cost they want.
If someone even has a old used one they would be will to sell drop me a line also?-nanccinut

I HAVE A FRET FILE YOU PAY SHIPPING AND HANDLING AND $25 ITS YOURS
Thanks very much for offer Paul but I can get a new burr through Stewart MacDonald for about $27.00 tax plus shipping. Just a pet peave about them shipping a 2- to 3oz item general delivery and charging $8.00. It's all on principle as for another $13.00 I could take it into my local liuther and have the job done but enjoy doing work on my Guild myself Paul.
Just hoping someone may be willing to part with a used burr dirt cheap that will get the job done so will keep watching the replies to my post and the one on the Lets Talk Guild.com site for a week or so. Thanks again for the offer.

Have you tried using a triangle file?
Yes in the past have used tiny triagle files to remove pits by taping each fret but you still don't get that proper crown on the top of the fret so the string only has reay a singe touch point.nanccinut
This is operator error; one can certainly file a proper crown with either a safe edge triangle file, or a cantsaw file.

Stewmac's shipping's a bitch, but that's the way it is. Consider that part of what you're paying for, is their no-questions, take-it-back-forever, customer service. You might also consider Paul's offer, if his isn't too, "WORE OUT", and his shipping handling is reasonable; diamond fret files are a whole 'nother ballgame.

Your local luthier will do a level/recrown for $40?
WELL MY FILE HAPPENS TO COST ME RIGHT AROUND $100 FROM STEW MAC ITS A WORE OUT DIAMOND EMBEDDED FRET FILE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
Thanks Paul for telling us we were talking diamond as I assumed it was the Mac 3in one set.
Yes we see the part number diamond file 150 grit part number 5050 and 5051, 300 grit do in fact sell for $95.00 Canadian right now. Will keep that in mind if we can't locate just a burr without this $8.00 general delivery cost.
Thanks

Which tool does this have to fit? Is it the Gurian style tool (Three-in-one Fret File)? If so, I might have something for you.

Cheers,
Bob

It very well may be as original order form pic looked like below and was not Stewart MacDonald but appears to be almst identical so figured a Mac would work. If you have a medium burr that looks like it will fit my handle drop me a private message with thanks so I can get your address along with your price in US funds to ship to my K9H5W9 postal code Bob. Thanks for your offer of help to get my Guild's frets back to where they should be once again! -nanccinut
Yep, that's the Gurian tool. I have one with all three burrs and I haven't used it in the last 4 years; hardly used before then. I now use the StewMac combo diamond file. If you want my Gurian setup, give me your address and expect a late package from Santa.

Bob
Trying to send you private message but not quite sure how. Do you go to your profile page and leave message there as will do in a few seconds Bob? Please step me through this private message area with thanks -nanccinut
Hi, Rob. Haven't seen anything yet. I checked to see if I gave you the correct email address and it looked okay. Want to try again?
