FRETS.NET

Greetings,

A number of years ago I got ten Brazilian rosewood guitar necks (and headpieces) from Steve Klein (and Steve Kauffman) for a project that we wound up using Indian for (needed more necks).  So I've got these old-growth air-dried Brazilian necks/headpieces for sale.  The necks have been cut for the truss rod and the portion that fits into the body (as an acoustic).

It is difficult to determine a price because nobody I've talked to knows anyone who uses Brazilian rosewood for necks, nor recalls anyone who does.  Maro (who deals with Brazilian) thought they would be worth $300 - $500 each, but, again, it's difficult to determine as there's never been a market for them - anyone with Brazilian that thick would have made them into backs and sides, and sold them for much larger sums.  I'm open to offers.  Don't be shy.  I'm not using them.

Thanks in advance,
Peace,
Paul Schmidt

Pictures of necks would be nice...you "got"them as in free? I would never spend 300 dollars on a neck I could get the wood for 30-50 a piece and make myself.Sounds like they're not even glued up.
Your market must be a lot better were you come from than ours up here in Canada. In to-days market we would be lucky to get the $500. for the whole dam Guitar. Is there no Recesion down there or are you guys still in Dream land. Bill.""""""""""
In response to the "sold" reply, send me a private email (artofmusicschool@earthlink.net) and we can work something out.

In response to the reply that was curious about how I obtained them, I purchased them - they were not free. And if you can get old-growth air-dried Brazilian rosewood necks for the price you mentioned, you're a much wiser man than I am.

In response to the Canadian fellow enquiring about the effects of the recession, it is indeed present, but it has not stilted everything. Regarding "dreamland", the case could be made the much of the western world has been in dreamland for half-a-century; but that perspective aside, people still pay higher prices for exceptional wood when they can find it to create fine instruments that do sell.
" Maro (who deals with Brazilian) thought they would be worth $300 - $500 each. "

Well, Maro knows about as much as anyone when it comes to the Brazilian rosewood market.

When you say "guitar neck" my immediate thought is Martin style acoustic. I'd bet others have different first reactions. How's about posting the dimensions so we know what's up? One piece, or laminated or jointed?
Hey Frank. Good idea. I've got all of the dimensions of each piece, and comments as well. I'll try and post them this weekend. They're all one-piece necks as are the headpieces.
Here are the dimensions:

#1 - length - 18 and 7/8" total, of which 3 and 3/4" is portion into the body
width - 2 and 3/16" tapering to 1 and 13/16"; 1 and 3/4" at 3 and 3/4" section
depth - 5/8" as are each of the necks

#2 - length - 21", of which 3 and 9/16"is portion into the body
width - 2 and 13/16" tapering to 1/1116"; 1 and 13/16" at into body portion

The dimensions of 'body portion', and width at body portion are very similar for the remainder of the necks unless otherwise noted

#3 - length - 20 and 13/16"
width - 2 and 3/8" tapers to 2 and 1/4" (an eighth added by another wood up the side)

#4 - length - 19 and 5/16"
width - 2 and 3/8" tapers to 2 and 1/16" (as #3, one-quarter inch added by another wood up the side)

#5 - length - 19 and 13/16"
width - 2 and 3/16" tapers to 1 and 11/16"

#6 - length - 19 and 11/16"
width - 2 and 1/2" no taper; body portion is 4 and 1/8" and 2 and 1/16" wide

#7 - length - 22 and 1/4"
width - 2 and 3/8" no taper

#8 - length - 19"
width - 2 and 3/8" no taper

#9 - length - 22 and 3/8"
width - 2 and 3/8" tapers to 2 and 1/16"

#10 - length - 19 and 7/16"
width - 2 and 1/2" no taper; body portion is 4 and 3/8"

#11 - length - 19 and 9/16"
width - 2 and 3/8" no taper

#12 - length - 19 and 1/4"
width - 2 and 7/8" tapers to 2 and 1/16"

I forgot I had 12 instead of 10.

There are 10 headpieces, each measuring L- 9 and 1/2", W - 2 and 3/4", D - 3/8". Eight of these are lovely, two have some rough edges, one of which has two small worm holes.

Truss rod grooves are cut for all 12 necks, and the body portion has holes drilled for affixing. #s 4, 9, and 12 have slightly asymetrical grooves cut, and #10 has a smaller rod groove cut.

I'm happy to supply photos (albeit not great ones) for anyone who might be serious. Again, feel free to contact me.
What you have are billets for bolt-on necks, and separate headstocks - am I getting that right?
Hey Paul-- I for one would like to see a photo of what you have -- think you can provide a few???
Peace, Donald
here are a few photos i am having a hard time finding any photos hope this satisfies

Paul,
I'm kind of lost. I don't understand what this set of pictures has to do with the topic. What am I missing?
Indeed if you have real Brazian rosewood necks I can only say "What a sad waste of good tone wood."
