What kind of neck joint does a 1955 Gibson ES-225 have, mortise and tenon? And, what is the best way to get this neck off to do a reset? I've done other neck resets on Gibson's, but not this particular model. I can't seem to be able to find any info on the net. Any help??

Also, if any of you have a picture of what it looks like, that would be helpful too.

It is a tapered dovetail.  The 15th fret is located over the end of the neck tenon.  Remove that fret, drill a small hole through the fingerboard  and you have access for a steam tube into the dovetail mortice to help loosen the glue.

Thanks! That really helps!

Drill TWO holes! One for steam and one for steam to escape. Otherwise you can do a lot of damage ...

Thanks guys, she steamed right off. When I took out the 15th fret, I saw someone else had already reset this neck before. There was a hole already drilled....hmm...wrong glue I suppose..deff not hide glue.
