old pickguard still has a bunch of dried brittle adhesive on the bottom side. Want to clean this off before reapplying with a new adhesive sheet. HAve tried naptha, alcahol, and acetone, and nothing seems to take this stuff off. Anything you can recommend that wont eat up the celluloid?

Googone is the way to go. I have used it and never had any issues.
Have you tried soaking it in hot, not boiling, water?
It may be something like titebond or hot hide glue. The products you tried wouldn't effect those glues.

Otherwise it can be scraped off. Remember,"where there is a will there is a way"

It must be a plastic and nothing is going to disolve it.
You might use the scrape or soak in water method
