I was just starting to bend a side of Palo escrito, when there was a loud crack. I had just bent 3 sets of rosewood sides, and was feeling pretty good about my technique, but this was my first time with Palo escrito. From front to back, the runout is a diagonal about 3/8 inch long. As you can see in the pictures, I was not very far into the bend.
Is this more of a problem with Palo escrito?
Does it require longer soaking time than rosewood?
Is there any chance of using a heat resistant glue and bending this side, perhaps in the opposite direction? The other side has not yet been bent.
If gluing is possible, what kind of glue would be best?
Should I just write it off?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Looks like the runout is your enemy here. This side might not be usable. I guess it does no harm to try to salvage it with CA glue. Can you thin it any more? Try super-soft. But I suspect that this piece of wood is destined to become headstock veneer (it does look nice).

Hey Mark,
Thanks for your reply. The side still has to be bent, and I'm not sure if the CA glue can handle the temperature of my side bending machine (with three 150 watt bulbs.) Water on the sides hisses so I'm assuming that its above the boiling point of water.
The back is particularly nice. I hate to give up on this one.
