FRETS.NET

I am planning to follow FF's advice from the .com site and fill this crack with hot hide glue and clamp it up. Just figured I'd play it safe and run it by the experts before I do. Thanks

Sounds like a good plan... it appears to be a clean crack and there's a lot of surface gluing area to work with. Pics when you're done?

Thats what I wanted to hear. And from a fellow Oregonian to boot.  Thanks Mike.

I'll post a pic when I have it strung up and ready to go.

I'm very happy with the results. Thanks again for the great websites Frank and for the quick affirmation Mike.

Good job, John... and I'll bet it holds like iron!  Nice shots.

VERY nice John! Clean looking. What method did you use to apply the hide glue into that crack?

Thanks Chris. I held the guitar upside down and used gravity and a small paint brush to load as much hot hide glue as I could.

Hah! I built the same glue pot. Works a charm, doesn't it!

Nice loking repair!

Yeah. I haven't been using it long, but so far so good. Can't beat the price either. I think I bought it for about $3 dollars at the local goodwill.

Now I'm experimenting with putting my hhg in a clear condiment container with a few stainless steel bolts in it. I got the idea from guitar builder Mario Prouxs' website. The bolts are supposed to help keep some heat while the bottle is out of its hot water bath and being used.  I think it might be nice to be able to just squeeze the glue out of a bottle like you do with titebond.

Very cool - I use a glass 1 cup measuring cup, which evens out the fluctuations in heat a bit.

Hey John.... well, of course you're a fellow Oregonian... I caught the "McMenamins" logo on the pencil in the first shot!
